Deepak received his Ph.D. from University of Maryland, College Park in May 2012. His doctoral research focuses on Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) and has received the Best Civil Engineering Ph.D. Award. Before joining the Ph.D. program he earned his Master’s in Civil Engineering from The University of Alabama in August 2008. He holds Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from Gujarat University in India where he was awarded a gold medal for best performance in Geotechnical Engineering elective group. He came to U.S. in 2007 to pursue higher studies. Since then he got involved in several research areas. In the recent years he has mainly focused on design and improvement of PPP contracts. He has published his works in various journals at regular intervals as well as presented his works at several conferences. His expertise and enthusiasm for PPP contracts enabled him to contribute significantly towards preparing several professional reports, funding proposals as well as a MS Excel based toolkit for Alabama DOT. Apart from his interests in PPPs he has also developed research interests in clean energy initiatives, issues related to climate change, carbon emissions and web-based sensing systems. He gained valuable construction industry experience through two summer internships. Before coming to the U.S. he worked as a full-time lecturer for six years in the Department of Civil Engineering of Nirma University and taught eight undergraduate subjects and labs. He was involved in planning, managing and organizing several national level events, seminars and conferences and students’ symposiums. He was actively involved in curricular and non-curricular activities including but not limited to examination committees, students’ cultural events and annual sports day celebrations.
