Merrick School of Business

Curriculum

The UB Bachelor of Science in Real Estate Program prepares students for careers in all phases of real estate—the program equips students with the most advanced knowledge in real estate finance, law, marketing, and construction.

The connection between theory and industry practice is an important element of the UB Real Estate and Economic Development Program it provides students with a background in general business and real estate theory and practice. Students will study the many factors involved in property assessment and sales, how they change and how these changes affect the real estate industry and economy. Study includes: property taxation, zoning, land-use planning, environmental protection, urban redevelopment and government-assisted financing programs.

Real Estate students have access to the most up-to-date industry computer software. Including:

  • ARGUS :  The industry’s most used valuation and cash flow analytic program. Argus derives profit and loss statements and cash flow set-ups. The program can also derive values and returns. Students who learn ARGUS at the Merrick School have a significant advantage when they graduate. This tool is used in investing and finance firms, as well as commercial marketing.
  • Co-STAR : The listing for all commercial real estate across the United States.  Co-star lists rent levels, pass-through costs,  available space,  and any other information that can be useful to buyers and renters.  MSB has the listings for the entire United States. Thus students can compare Baltimore to other cities and areas.
