History
The University of Baltimore was founded in 1925 as a private institution. Its founders were a group of Baltimore civic leaders who wanted to provide low-cost, part-time evening study in business and law for working adults.
Its first site was at the southeast corner of St. Paul and Mt. Vernon Place with a class of 62 law students and 114 business students.
Today, in a marketplace that competes for business students, UB remains steadfast in its career-focused philosophy that has served students for more than 80 years. The School of Business has been an integral part of the history of the University of Baltimore and the surrounding community, and continues to gain momentum as it strives to make excellence accessible to all students.

The Merrick School of Business hosted 2006 Nobel Peace prize winner and "Banker to the Poor", Muhammad Yunus as the inaugural speaker for Merrick School of Business Speaker series. It was the first time a Nobel Laureate spoke at UB. |

First University System of Maryland institution to sign the United Nations Global Compact on the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). |

Opened the Entrepreneurial Opportunity Center to assist students, alumni and area businesses with their ventures. |

Darlene Brannigan Smith, B.S. ’78, M.B.A. ’80, became the first alumna appointed as dean of the School of Business. |

Established the first and only undergraduate business program in Maryland focused on the real estate and economic development industry . |

35 years after the establishment of the UB M.B.A., the School of Business became strategic partners with Towson University to deliver the UB/Towson M.B.A. |

Business School received three generous financial gifts from the Merrick Foundation. The school was named after Robert G. Merrick, Sr. |

University received accreditation from the Middle States Association. |

Establishment of the Master in Business Administration program followed by the Master of Science and certificate programs. |
