Work Study

University of Baltimore Financial Aid

Some of the many advantages of accepting a position with the Federal Work-Study Program include:

  • Location - No travel time for on-campus positions.
  • Convenience - Departments are flexible in scheduling work hours around your class schedule.
  • Stimulation - Working in an educational environment enhances the learning process.
  • No Penalty - Earnings are a form of financial aid and therefore not counted as income in calculating future financial aid eligibility.
  • Community Service - An opportunity to serve the community as a tutor, program assistant, or supporter in a local agency.

Pay Rate:

The pay rate for work-study positions is based on the responsibilities of the job, but generally range from $7.50 - $10 per hour. A federal Work-study award is the amount a student may earn during the academic year. The funds are not credited to the student's tuition bill, instead students will receive a paycheck on a biweekly basis.

What You Need:

To apply for a work-study position, you must have an unused Work-study award as part of your current Financial Aid Award listed on MyUB. You must also be currently enrolled at least half time, which is six credits for the current semester.  To work during the summer, you must be attending at least half time (six credits) for the upcoming fall semester.  Please see the financial aid awarding information for 2012-2013 here.

Students who withdraw below half time (six credits) must stop working immediately.

Job Opportunities:

Available jobs are listed on ubWorks in your MyUB.  Contact the employing department or outside agency when you find a job that matches your interests and skills.  Once you have found employment your new supervisor will complete all paperwork.  You will need to print a copy of your work-study award from MyUB to submit to your supervisor with your employment contract.

Calendar

June 30, 2013 is the last day a student can work under a 2012-2013 Work-Study award.  A 2013-2014 Award and an approved contract from HR are required to work after that date.
