Printing on the Wireless Network with Windows
Wireless printing is available on certain UB Lab Printers. To use wireless printing, you will need to:
- be connected to the UB wireless network
- add the wireless printer to your wireless device
Note: Print jobs sent through wireless printing are deducted from your printer page balance.

How to add a printer
We are using the Internet printing protocol (IPP) standard for wireless printing. It provides the security and authentication needed without Windows file sharing (SMB) issues. It also supports multiple platforms very easily.
Windows 7 | Windows Vista | Windows XP | Windows 2000
- Click the Start button.
- Select Control Panel.
- Under Hardware and Sound, click Add a Device (in Classic View, select Devices and Printers).
- Click Add a Printer.
- Click Add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer.
- Click Next. Windows will search for all network printers.
- Click the Stop button.
- Select The printer that I want isn't listed.
- Click Next.
- Choose Select a shared printer by name.
- Type the complete name of the printer you want to connect to:
- Click Next.
- When prompted for a username and password, enter cis\netID, where netID is your username, and the password your normally use with your netID.
- Click OK.
- When the Add Printer Wizard window prompts you for the manufacturer and model, select the manufacturer and model from the list of available printers.
- Click OK.
- In the next window confirm the printer name and choose if you'd like this to be your default printer.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish. The printers control panel should display the new printer you added. You can now print to it through iprint.ubalt.edu.
- Click the Start button.
- Select Control Panel.
- Double click the Printers icon. (If you do not see Printers, click the Classic View option, then locate the Printers icon.)
- Click Add a Printer.
- Click Add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer.
- Click Next. Vista will search for all network printers.
- Click the Stop button.
- Select The printer that I want isn't listed.
- Click Next.
- Choose Select a shared printer by name.
- Type the complete name of the printer you want to connect to:
- Click Next.
- When prompted for a username and password, enter cis\netID, where netID is your username, and the password your normally use with your netID.
- Click OK.
- When the Add Printer Wizard window prompts you for the manufacturer and model, select HP for the manufacturer and HP LaserJet 9050 Series PCL6.
- Click OK.
- In the next window confirm the printer name and choose if you'd like this to be your default printer.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish. The printers control panel should display the new printer you added. You can now print to it through iprint.ubalt.edu.
For Windows XP, you will need to have administrator rights to your computer to set up an IIP printer. The simplest way to set up a printer in Windows XP is to follow the following steps:
- Log in to the UB Wireless Network. (Opening the Internet Explorer browser should force you to log in to the wireless network. This will not work in other browsers.)
- Go to this web page: https://iprint.ubalt.edu/printers. You will be prompted for a username and password. Enter UB netID and password.
- Once you are logged in, you will see a list of available printers. Click on the one you want to use.
- In the menu on the left, click on the link titled, “Connect”. You will be asked if you want to install the printer. Click Yes.
- If prompted for a username and password again, enter your netID and password.
- After the printer installation, you should be able to open the Printer Control Panel and verify that the printer has been added.
- You should now be able to print to that printer from any Windows application.
For Windows 2000, you will need to have administrator rights to your computer to set up an IIP printer.
- Click on the Start button and then go to Settings and Printers
- Double click on “Add Printer”.
- Select “Network Printer”.
- Click “Connect to a printer on the Internet or on a home or office network:”
- In the “URL” box enter the URL that corresponds to the printer you want to add (you can identify which URL's correspond to which printers because the name of the printer is contained in the URL). Please note, the URL must be entered exactly as it appears below.
- Next you will be prompted for authentication. Select the option, “Use a specified user account” and enter your UB netID and password.
- After a few moments Windows should automatically download and install the correct printer driver for your operating system.
