Mac OS X (Lion) Setup for Secure Wireless

  1.  From the Apple menu AppleLogo open System Preferences.
  2.  Click Network. (You can also access Network Preferences from the Airport icon)
  3.  Make sure the Wi-Fi option is highlighted.
  4.  Click the Network Name drop down list and choose Join Other Network.

  5. In the Find and Join a Wi-Fi network section, set the following:
    •     Network Name:ubalt-secure
    •     Security: WPA2 Enterprise or Any (Enterprise) if available.
    •     Mode: Automatic
    •     Username: your netID
    •     Password: your netID password
  6.  Make sure the Remember this network box is checked.

  7. Click Join.
  8. Click OK and apply the changes.
  9. If prompted to verify the certification, click Continue.
  • Your connection is complete. To connect to ubalt-secure, turn the Wi-Fi on and make sure ubalt-secure is selected.
  • Note: When you change your password you will have to delete the ubalt-secure wireless profile and re-add it with your new password.
    •         How to delete a wireless profile.
    •         Open Network Preferences. (Make sure the Wi-Fi option is highlighted)
    •         Click Advanced.
    •         Highlight the profile you want to delete.
    •         Click the (-) minus sign to delete the profile.
    •         Click OK and apply the changes.
    •         Click Advanced and click the (+) sign to re-add the profile.              

Mac OS X Setup for Secure Wireless

  1. Open System Preferences.
  2. Click the Network Preference Pane.
  3. Select the Airport connection, then click the Advanced button.
  4. In the Advanced window, click the 802.1x option. You will be creating a new User Profile.
  5. In the lower left corner, click the + sign and select Add User Profile.

  6. Type a name for the profile. We use UBSecure.
  7. In the User Profile section, set the following:
    • Username: your netID
    • Password: your netID password
    • Wireless Network: ubalt-secure
    • Security Type: WPA2 Enterprise

  8. Click OK.
  9. Back at the main Network preference pane, the profile you created will be displayed. To connect to the network, click the Connect button.
  10. When prompted to verify the certification, click Continue.
  11. When prompted for a name and password, enter your computer username and password combination. (The same combination used when installing software or system updates.) Click OK.
  • Your connection is complete. To connect to ubalt-secure, click your Wireless Indicator in the Finder Menu and select ubalt-secure.
