Law Professor: Supreme Court's DNA Decision Avoids 'Worst Case' for Biotech

University of Baltimore School of Law professor Greg Dolin was quoted in several news outlets following the U.S. Supreme Court's unanimous ruling that DNA is a product of nature and thus cannot be patented and used for profit. "The worst fears of the biotechnology industry have not been realized," Dolin said.

Ambassador Lincoln P. Bloomfield Jr. has published a new monograph entitled The Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) - Shackled by a Twisted History through the University of Baltimore's College of Public Affairs. Bloomfield, a former defense and foreign policy official who has served three presidents over five administrations in the Pentagon, White House and State Department, has produced a scholarly history about the MEK, a group of student intellectuals who opposed the Shah of Iran but became an enemy of the clerical regime of Ayatollah Khomeini after the revolution. The work includes a foreword by Ivan Sascha Sheehan, assistant professor and director of the graduate programs in Negotiation and Conflict Management as well as Global Affairs and Human Security in the College of Public Affairs.

$1M Angelos Gift to School of Law's Baltimore Scholars Program to Increase Diversity

A $1 million gift from Peter Angelos, LL.B. '61, will be used by the University of Baltimore School of Law to strengthen its Baltimore Scholars Program, an intensive, one-on-one approach to enhancing diversity in legal education and in the wider legal community. The five-year-old initiative will be renamed the Fannie Angelos Program for Academic Excellence. Both Peter Angelos and his sister, Fannie Angelos, LL.B. '51, are graduates of the School of Law. The formal announcement of the gift was made on June 10.
